RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Mines men's and women's indoor track and field teams closed the two-day Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Indoor Championships with strong performances Saturday at the Donald E. Young Center Fieldhouse in Spearfish.
The Hardrockers came away with one first-team all-conference performance and three second-team all-conference finishes. As a team, the men finished in ninth place with 21 points, while the women were 14th with five points.
Leading the way for the men individually was junior
Aidan Thompson, who finished in third place in the heptathlon with 4,748 points, good for first team all-conference. Thompson was second going into the final three events with 2,781 points. His best event Saturday was the 1,000-meter run where he finished second in 2:47.13.
Graduate student
Jaycie Stubbs earned second team all-conference honors as she finished in fourth place in the women's shot put with a school-record best toss of 13.76 meters or 45-feet, 1½ inches. Her previous best was 13.55 meters.
Freshman
Cooper Stevens earned second-team all-conference status when he finished in sixth place in the men's shot put with a career-high toss of 15.56m (51-0 ½), which put him in eighth place all-time for the Hardrockers.
Freshman
Sawyer Nelson earned second-team all-conference for the 'Rockers as he finished sixth in the men's high jump with a personal best 1.99m or 6-6¼. That mark tied him for sixth all-time for the school. He also scored a team point in the triple jump, as he was eighth at 13.90m (45-7).
The men's 400-meter relay team finished in fourth place in 3:27.54. The team consisted of junior

Trevor Fredenburg was also 13
th in the high jump at 1.84m (6-0¼).

Melissa May finished in ninth place in a time of 4:21.15.
Senior
Ian Cone finished in 12
th place in the men's shot put at 14.53m (47-8). Greisen also finished 14
th in the 800 in 1:58.29 and junior
Amanda Cooley was 12
th at 11.68 meters (38-9½) in the women's shot put, with sophomore
Adisyn Schenck 18
th at 11.01m (36-1¼) in the same event.
In the women's pentathlon, freshman
Josie Byrne finished 17
th with 1,993 points and junior
Abby Krumpus was 18
th with 1,856 points.

The Hardrocker men and women are scheduled to open the outdoor season Friday, March 15 at the Dr. Don Caprioglio Early Bird Invitational in Pueblo, Colo.
