COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – On Wednesday afternoon, the NCAA selected and released its regional rankings for the eight regions.
Following their phenomenal season, South Dakota Mines' Volleyball team placed eighth in the South Central Regional Rankings, a significant achievement.
The volleyball team has etched its name in the school's history books, becoming the first to earn a regional ranking in the NCAA era.
The upcoming NCAA tournament features 64 teams, the top eight from each region. If the Hardrockers can hold onto that eighth spot, they will likely become the first team from South Dakota Mines to make an NCAA national tournament.
This edition of the rankings is the final ranking of the season prior to the announcement of the NCAA Division II Tournament field on Monday, Nov. 25th, via an online selection show. The winners of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournaments will receive an automatic qualifying bid into the tournament, while the final six teams of the eight-team South Central Regional Tournament field will receive at-large bids determined by the NCAA Selection Committee.
South Dakota Mines stands at 18-9 overall and 11-3 in the RMAC.
