CHADRON, Neb. – The South Dakota Mines volleyball team took a brief break in the RMAC schedule beginning Tuesday as they took on rival, Chadron State in a non-conference matchup.
The match was a battle that looked like the Hardrockers would emerge victorious after taking the first and third sets but could not close it out, going to five, before Chadron State picked up the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A back-and-forth first set eventually went the way of the Hardrockers with a late four-point run that gave them the 25-21 win.
The second set was a different story, however, as Chadron State controlled the majority of the set with a five-point lead for much of the set, and they were able to hold off a late Hardrocker push, winning 25-22.
In the third set, each team would battle, trading ties and leads late after a three-point run by the Hardrockers tightened up the contest. Eventually, it would go into extra points with
Kiera Walsh getting a kill, followed by
Jenna Curtis and then a Chadron State error would give the 'Rockers a 31-29 victory.
Chadron State would again control the fourth set, taking an early 7-1 lead and keeping their foot on the pedal throughout to pick up the 25-16 victory to push it to a fifth set.
The fifth was a battle again, but first, the Hardrockers grabbed an early 7-4 advantage, before Chadron State scored five straight points and eventually earned the 15-13 victory.
