RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Mines men's and women's indoor tack and field teams will compete for the first time this season in a two-day meet at the Dave Little Alumni Mile Saturday in Spearfish.
Hosted by Black Hills State University, the Hardrockers look for another strong effort after competing last Saturday at the Mike Thorson Open at the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D.
At UMary, the Hardrockers were led again by freshman
Sawyer Nelson, who broke his own school record in the triple jump as he placed first with a best jump of 14.12 meters, or 46-feet, 4 inches.
In team competition, the Hardrocker men finished a strong third place with 81 points, while the South Dakota Mines women were eighth with 21 points.
Also for the Hardrocker men, sophomore
Thomas Greisen won the 800-meter run in 1 minute, 58.57 seconds. Junior
Owen Hansmann finished second in the mile run in 4:34.89.
Leading the way form the Hardrocker women was the tandem of seniors
Abbie Saline and
Adeline Wilson and junior
Katie Magni, who all moved in the top 10 in school history in the 600-meter run. Saline was fourth in the race in 1:44.41, Wilson was sixth in 1:45.86 and Magni was 12
th in 1:49.94. Saline now has the sixth top time, Wilson seventh and Magni 10
th.
