Hardrocker Men Take Third at Mary, Nelson Sets Another Record

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Mines men's and women's indoor track and field teams looked for strong performances at the Mike Thorson Open in Bismarck, N.D., and got one from the Hardrocker men as they finished in third place in the team standings.
 
The Hardrockers finished with 81 points in the eight-team meet, hosted by the University of Mary, behind Northern State at 195 and Bismarck State at 92. The South Dakota Mines women finished with 21 points and eighth place.
 
Individually, freshman Sawyer Nelson had another big day as he broke his own school record in the triple jump, as he finished third at 14.12 meters. Nelson was also third in the high jump at 1.93 meters.
 
Also for the Hardrocker men, sophomore Thomas Greisen won the 800-meter run in 1 minutes, 58.57 seconds. Junior Owen Hansmann finished second in the mile run in 4:34.89, with freshman Zachary Vanicek third in the pole vault at  4.07 meters and senior Taegen Wells third in the 60 hurdles at 8.46.
 
Leading the way form the Hardrocker women was the tandem of seniors Abbie Saline and Adeline Wilson and junior Katie Magni, who all moved in the top 10 in school history in the 600-meter run. Saline was fourth in the race in 1:44.41, Wilson was sixth in 1:45.86 and Magni was 12th in 1:49.94. Saline now has the sixth top time, Wilson seventh and Magni 10th.
 
Also for the Hardrocker women, graduate student Jaycie Stubbs finished second in the shot put at 13.21 meters.
