RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Mines men's and women's indoor track and field teams returned to action after a month holiday break when it competed in the Myrle Hanson Open Saturday at the Donald E. Young Fieldhouse in Spearfish, hosted by Black Hills State University.
The Hardrockers came away with two first-place finishes, including one individual win and one school record.
Freshman
Sawyer Nelson broke the men's triple jump mark with a second-place finish at 13.92 meters. The previous mark was Corry MacFarlane at 13.88 meters in 1991. Sawyer was also second in the high jump at 1.90 meters, also a personal best.
Earning the lone individual win was
Zachary Vanicek, who captured the men's pole vault at 4.18 meters. Also placing second for the Hardrocker men were
Cooper Stevens in the shot put at 14.49 meters and
Taegen Wells in the 60 hurdles in 8:54.
Also for the Hardrocker men, the distance medley team of
Tristan Enders, Ty Brady,
Cole Dobberstein and
Cole Tatro finished on top in 10:56.40.
The South Dakota Mines women's distance medley relay "B" team of
Allyson Heiden,
Katie Magni,
Adeline Wilson and
Abbie Saline finished in first place in 13:45.73, the seventh best time in Hardrocker history.
