RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines soccer team held its home opener on Sunday afternoon against Dakota Wesleyan.
In the first half the two teams, battled back and forth, with Dakota Wesleyan taking control of possession for much of the last 15-20 minutes of the half, but went into the locker rooms tied at 0.
The possession paid off in the second half with Dakota Wesleyan getting on the board on a penalty kick in the 64th minute. Dakota Wesleyan would add one more on a goal in the 70th minute from Cesar Cornejo and assisted by Vlad Burkoy. The Hardrockers would not find the back of the net, falling 2-0.
Next up for the Hardrockers is a Wednesday night matchup right back at home at Dakota Fields at 6:00 p.m.
