Chadron, Neb. --- The South Dakota Mines volleyball played two more matches on Saturday at the Chadron State Tournament in Chadron, Neb. In the first match, the Hardrockers defeated the Eagles from Chadron State in four sets. The Hardrockers then avenged their loss from yesterday to MSU Moorhead by defeating the Dragons in three sets.
vs. Chadron State
South Dakota Mines took down RMAC foe Chadron State 3-1 (25-21; 25-22; 23-25; 25-23). The Hardrockers used a balanced attack on offense and defense in the win. The Rockers had three players in double digits in kills.
Alessandra Meoni led the way with 16,
Jenna Curtis had 15, and
Paisley Gibson added 11.
Hannah Benes was solid on defense with 31 digs.
Kiley Metzger had 45 assists in the win.
The Hardrockers as a team had 60 kills, 56 assists, 10 aces, and 94 digs. The win gives the Hardrockers a 2-1 overall record in the early season.
vs. MSU Moorhead
The Hardrockers left no doubt in their match against the Dragons beating MSU Moorhead 3-0 (25-15; 28-26; 25-17). Meoni is showing her dominance early on this season leading the Hardrockers in the match with 11 kills.
Kiera Walsh had 10 kills in the win. Metzger ended the match with 37 assists and Benes had 19 digs.
Josey Wickersham served up four aces for the Hardrockers.
The Hardrockers hit .271% with 47 kills and 43 assists. They also had nine aces in the win. The Hardrockers went 3-1 in the tournament and will face UMary and Texas A&M – Kingsville next Friday in the Yellowjacket Classic in Spearfish, S.D.
