RAPID CITY, S.D. --- Ryan Thompson, head men's soccer coach at South Dakota Mines has announced his resignation.
Thompson has led the Hardrockers since 2019, the longest-tenured head coach in program history. Prior to his time as a head coach, Thompson served as an assistant coach for two years.
Thompson led the team through a battle with kidney disease and helped the program to several different milestones. Student-athletes were selected RMAC All-Academic 22 times, and four student-athletes earn All-RMAC selections on the pitch under his leadership.
Coach Thompson helped Justin Barkow and
George Martinez to become the top two goal scorers in program history along with being at the top of the record books in several statistical categories. Thompson has also helped
Hayden Jaramillo to become the program's all-time assist leader.
Thompson's resignation takes effect on July 27, and he will take over as head coach at Utah State University Eastern.
"We appreciate Ryan's hard work and dedication to the men's soccer program and what he has done for the institution," said Athletic Director Joel Lueken. "We wish him the best going forward."
