Women's Basketball Falls to Orediggers

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- South Dakota Mines hosted the Orediggers on Saturday afternoon. The Hardrockers allowed two high-scoring Oredigger quarters in the first and third and were not able to catch up, despite a strong fourth quarter.
 
How it Happened – Early in the first quarter, Colorado Mines got off to a good start with a 6-0 lead. After one quarter, Colorado Mines led by 10, after a great offensive quarter, scoring 24 to the Hardrockers' 14.

Early in the second, the Hardrockers were able to narrow the deficit, with a three-pointer by Madelyn Heiser, cutting the Oredigger lead to 5, 26-21. Later in the quarter, Megan Alexander connected on a putback after an offensive rebound, bringing the 'Rockers to within 4, 29-25. For the remainder of the quarter, Colorado School of Mines would outscore South Dakota Mines 10-2, taking a 39-27 lead into the locker rooms. 

In the third quarter, the Orediggers got off to a quick start, taking a 50-33 lead after back-to-back Jessica Rios three-pointers. Going into the fourth, the Hardrockers were trailing 64-43.

South Dakota Mines saved their best for last, outscoring Colorado School of Mines 25-20 in the fourth, but it wouldn't be enough as the Hardrockers were not able to get back into the game, falling 84-68.  
 
Up Next – The Hardrockers will be back on the court next weekend as they take on Regis and UCCS on the road.
