Hardrocker Women Continue to Claw Back but Unable to Get the Victory

DENVER, Colo. --- On Friday night, the Hardrocker women's basketball team took on a tough Regis squad and could not overcome a slow start in the first quarter, eventually falling.

How it Happened – To begin the first quarter, Regis went on a 7-0 run and got out to a 13-2 lead early, forcing a Hardrocker timeout. Out of the timeout, the Hardrocker offense would get a spark, starting with a three-pointer by Savea Mansfield, followed shortly thereafter by a Bailey Johnson three-point play, the old-fashioned way, cutting the deficit to 7 points, 15-8. Towards the end of the first, a 6-0 Hardrocker run would pull the 'Rockers to within 4 to close the quarter, with Regis leading 21-17.

In the second quarter, Regis would get another run going, this time, 9-0, taking a 36-23 lead. The Hardrockers would not give in, however, going on an 8-2 run to end the half, cutting the Regis lead to 38-31 at the break.

In the third quarter, The Hardrocker offense would slow, and Regis would take advantage, outscoring South Dakota Mines 20-12 through the first eight minutes, to take a 58-43 lead. Another Hardrocker push would bring them back within single digits, going into the fourth, trailing 61-52.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Regis would score seven in a row, pushing their lead back to double figures, 68-52. This time, the Hardrockers would not be able to fight back, falling 85-62.
