RAPID CITY, S.D. --- South Dakota Mines hosted the Roadrunners from MSU Denver on Friday night in the King Center. The Hardrockers were persistent and battled much of the game, but couldn't keep the Roadrunners in check. The Hardrockers were defeated 72-58.
How it Happened – The Hardrockers fell behind early in the first quarter 8-2 but rallied back to tie the game 9-9 when
Savea Mansfield drained a 3-pointer with 4:00 minutes left in the quarter. The Roadrunners would score 13 to the Hardrockers' 12 in the first and head into the second quarter with the lead.
In the second quarter, The Hardrocker offense slowed, and MSU Denver scored 20, to take a 33-21 lead into halftime. The Hardrockers were led by
Megan Alexander in the first half with five points.
Offensively, the Hardrockers performed much better in the third quarter, scoring 20, and outscoring MSU Denver, 20-17. The 'Rockers narrowed the deficit to 9-points when
Madelyn Heiser hit a jumper with a minute left in the quarter. Going into the fourth, South Dakota Mines trailed 50-41.
The Hardrockers continued to battle, but the Roadrunners pulled away in the first part of the fourth quarter, taking a 15-point lead. The Hardrockers could not catch up to the Roadrunners as they were outscored 22-17 in the fourth quarter. MSU Denver went on to win the game 72-58.
