LEXINGTON, Ky. --- On Wednesday afternoon, the American Volleyball Coaches Association selected its Division II All-American Teams.
Following the best Division II season in program history, Alessandra Meoni was selected as just the second Hardrocker volleyball player in the Division II era to be named an all-american, being selected to the AVCA Division II All-America team as an honorable mention.
Meoni, a junior right side/opposite, originally hails from Padova, Italy, before moving to Friendswood High School in Texas and coming to the Hardrockers via Western Nebraska Community College was phenomenal in her first season with South Dakota Mines. For the season, Meoni averaged 3.40 kills per set and a hitting percentage of .335 to go along with 3.69 points per set. These numbers were all near the top of the RMAC, earning her a Second Team All-RMAC selection. Meoni was also selected as a member of the AVCA South Central Region team.
Those numbers helped lead the Hardrockers to the best season in its DII history, setting several records and program milestones along the way, including 18 wins (most in DII history), 10 conference wins (most in DII history), hosting an RMAC playoff match (first time in school history), and advancing to the RMAC Semifinals (first time in program history), among others.
