DURANGO, Colo. --- On Saturday, the South Dakota Mines volleyball team was in Durango for a one-off matchup with Fort Lewis, and the results were once again good for the Hardrockers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set started back and fourth with the two teams tied at 12, but a four-point run from the Hardrockers with kills from
Ivy Vindivich,
Alessandra Meoni, and
Annelise Larson opened it up to a 16-12 lead. Later in the Set, the Hardrocker would score another four in a row, with a pair of kills by
Jenna Curtis to close the set, 25-16.
The second set was also close all the way through to the middle, and another 4-point run gave South Dakota Mines a 21-15 lead. A kill by the returning
Kiley Metzger closed the set, 25-21.
The Skyhawks jumped on the Hardrockers a bit in the third set, taking a 10-point lead at 19-9, but South Dakota Mines would rally, cutting the lead to two on a massive
Paisley Gibson kill, but it wouldn't be enough with Fort Lewis taking the set 25-22.
In the fourth, Fort Lewis would get an early lead of 6-1 but that wouldn't last as
Paisley Gibson would get three kills in a row, jumpstarting a 5-point run and a 13-11 lead. Another four-point run late, closed out by
Alessandra Meoni would give the 'Rockers a 25-20 set and match win, 3-1.
The win moved the Hardrockers to 10-6 on the year and 4-2 in RMAC play for their best start in RMAC play in school history.

Paisley Gibson added 8 apiece…
Kiera Walsh (6),
Morgan Daugherty (4), and
Annelise Larson (4) combined for 14 blocks…
Ellison Spencer recorded 22 assists, while the returning
Kiley Metzger recorded 21…
Hannah Benes added four serving aces and 15 digs.

South Dakota Mines returns home to the King Center next weekend, where they take on Colorado School of Mines on Friday night and the current #7 ranked MSU Denver Roadrunners on Saturday afternoon.
