RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines volleyball team matched up against the Orediggers from Colorado School of Mines in RMAC play Friday night in the King Center.
The Hardrockers continued their run of strong play, winning their fifth RMAC match in a row, defeating the Orediggers in four sets (25-22; 25-22; 23-25; 25-14).
This was the first win against Colorado Mines since 2019 and the second win since 2015.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hardrockers used a balanced offensive attack and phenomenal defensive play in the win, jumping out of the starting gates on fire leading the Orediggers by three points 7 different times during the first set. The Orediggers tied the set 15-15, but the Rockers would pull away to win the set 25-22 on an
Ellison Spencer ace.
In the second set, South Dakota Mines kept up the momentum through much of it. The Orediggers tied the set 8-8, but the Hardrockers scored right away and never let the Orediggers back in it. It went back and forth, but the 'Rockers would win the second set 25-22.
In the third set, the Hardrockers trailed early until they tied the set 10-10. The Orediggers would go up by five 19-14, but South Dakota Mines would fight back, tying the set late, but Colorado School of Mines would score the last two points to win the set 25-23.
The Hardrockers left no doubt in the fourth set, dominating throughout. After Colorado School of Mines fought to within one point, 7-6, the Hardrockers took off, taking a 13-7 lead and then scored four in a row, increasing it to 17-9. They would not let off the throttle, taking the set 25-14.
