RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines volleyball played host to the #6 team in the country MSU Denver on Saturday afternoon in the King Center.
Despite battling, The Hardrockers were not able to pick up a victory, snapping their five-game RMAC streak as the Roadrunners defeated the Hardrockers 3-0 (25-17; 25-19; 25-14).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Roadrunners went ahead 5-1, and 8-2 out of the gates but a pair of runs, 4-0 and 3-0, brought the Hardrockers to within 3 points after an
Annelise Larson kill made it 17-14. Unfortunately, MSU Denver would score four unanswered of their own, going up 23-15 and taking the set, 25-17.
Early in the second, the Hardrockers kept it close, pulling to within two, 5-3 after an
Ivy Vindivich kill. Following that, the Roadrunners would score four in a row, taking a 9-3 lead. The Hardrockers would continue to battle, getting a kill from
Paisley Gibson to cut the deficit to 11-9 but another MSU Denver run would follow, expanding the lead to 15-8. South Dakota Mines was not out of it, cutting the deficit to three a couple more times, but eventually falling, 25-19.
The beginning of the third set was an absolute battle, with the teams locked up at 8 after a
Madison Smith kill. The Hardrockers were within 1 point at 11-10, but MSU Denver would go on a big run through two 'Rocker timeouts, expanding the lead to 22-10 and eventually taking the set, 25-14.
