RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines men's basketball team took on Chadron State on Saturday. It was a tight battle between the two rivals, but the Hardrockers were unable to pull it out, falling 70-67.
How it Happened – In the first half, the Hardrockers got off to a great start, taking a double-digit lead, 21-11. Later in the half, the Hardrockers led 28-21 with two minutes left, however, Chadron State would close out the half, down 30-26.
Once again, the second half started well for South Dakota Mines as
Brevin Walter gave the 'Rockers a 10-point lead, 40-30 after he hit a jumper.
Kolton Frugoli threw down a rim-rattling dunk, giving the Hardrockers a 53-46 lead, but then Chadron State made a hard charge coming back from down 51-44, taking a 57-53 lead, setting up a tense last five-minutes. With 4:14 to play and South Dakota Mines trailing by three,
Kolten Mortensen hit a three as the shot clock expired to tie it up at 61. On the next possession, Frugoli gave the Rockers the lead, 63-61. Trailing 66-63,
Brevin Walter hit a bucket, but the teams would continue to trade baskets. With 37.8 to go, Chadron State had the ball, leading 68-67. Chadron State came up with a turnover and got fouled, hitting both free throws, taking a 70-67 lead with 4.8 seconds left. A last-second three-point shot by Rama would not connect, giving Chadron State the 70-67 victory.

Up Next – The Hardrockers will take the floor again this Friday and Saturday at the King Center. On Friday the Hardrockers will face off against MSU Denver at 7:30 PM, and on Saturday they will play Colorado School of Mines at 6:00 PM.
