Hardrockers Fight but Unable to Tally One in the Win Column Friday

DENVER, Colo. – The South Dakota Mines volleyball team battled with the Regis Rangers on Friday night but will come home without another tally in the win column as Regis was able to go on runs that the Hardrockers couldn't match.

How It Happened – In the first set, the Hardrockers started out battling and leading 6-5, but Regis would go on a pair of runs thanks to stellar play from Mara LeGrand as well as the Ranger attackers, first scoring six in a row, then four in a row to close the first set, 25-17.

In the second set, the Hardrocker would battle and take a 12-11 lead and tied at 14 with Morgan Daugherty, Jacey Koethe and Emma Grimm leading the charge, but Regis would score three in a row, taking a 17-14 lead. The Hardrockers would call timeout and briefly come back but Regis would close out the set on a 6-1 run with three kills coming from Halle Theis.

In the third set, the Hardrockers continued to battle back and forth, but Regis continued to go on runs that South Dakota Mines would not be able to bounce back from, this time it was a different story as the Hardrockers battled back to within two points, 19-17, and then one point, 21-20, but Regis would close the door with four straight points, taking the set 25-20 and the match, 3-0.

Notes – Kiley Metzger returned to her more natural setter role and had 26 assists…Jacey Koethe recorded three blocks…Anna Thomas recorded 8 digs, while Hannah Benes and Emma Grimm recorded 7.

Up Next –The Hardrockers take on Regis on the road on Friday evening at 5:00 p.m.
