DENVER, Colo. --- The South Dakota Mines volleyball team started off the two-match weekend at second ranked Metro State University Denver on Friday night in Denver, Colo. The Roadrunners would defeat the Hardrockers 3-0.
How It Happened - In the first set, the Roadrunners jumped out to a five-point lead 8-3, but the Hardrockers battled back to bring the score to within one 8-7. Metro State would just keep the lead big enough so the Hardrockers could not make a comeback. The Roadrunners would win the first set 25-21.
The Hardrockers were led by
Jacey Koethe with five kills.
Dejah Behrend ended the set with four kills.
In the second set, the Hardrockers led 3-1 before the Roadrunners tied the set up at 4-4. Metro State would pull away from the Hardrockers to win the second set 25-15.
In the third set, the Hardrockers had a 6-5 lead early in the set. The Roadrunners would grab a 11-7 lead in the middle of the set. The Hardrockers would pull to within two points 14-12, but the Roadrunners were too strong in the end and won the set 25-15. The Roadrunners won the match 3-0.
Notes – Koethe led the way for the Hardrockers with 10 kills.
Kiley Metzger had 21 assists and eight digs.
Up Next - The Hardrockers are now 4-11 overall and 1-6 in the RMAC conference. The Hardrockers will now face Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, Colo Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM.
