Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Gets Last Minute Victory Against Chadron State

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- A back and forth battle all night long led to neither team getting out to any big leads at any point. Madelyn Heiser was able to hit a free throw with under 10 seconds to go and that was the difference in the game.

How It Happened –

Early in the first quarter, the Hardrockers raced out to a 7-2 lead. Chadron State answered with an 8-0 run before a Madelyn Heiser layup. For the remainder of the first, the two teams would go back and forth with Chadron leading 20-17.

In the second the two teams would continue to battle with Samiyah Worrell leading the Eagles with 11 points, but the Hardrockers held a 27-26 lead at the media timeout with 4:47 to go. Out of the timeout, Piper Bauer hit a tough three, falling to the floor giving the Hardrockers a 4-point lead. Going into halftime, the Hardrockers held a 32-20 lead.

In the third the two teams would go back and forth with the Hardrockers continuing to play great defense but would go into the fourth tied at 48.

The fourth would continue the way the rest of the game did with neither team getting out to a big lead and changing leads. Weiss continued to play well, hitting a layup to give the Hardrockers a 58-57 lead and following it up with another, giving the Hardrockers a three-point lead. Chadron would fight back getting a free throw from Ashayla Powers to tie it up with 14.5 seconds to play. Madelyn Heiser would go to the other end drawing a foul and hitting the first free throw, followed by an Eagle timeout. The Hardrockers would hold on to that lead and grab the win.
