Men's Basketball Team Falls in High Scoring Battle

DURANGO, Colo. --- The men's basketball team from South Dakota Mines traveled to Colorado to face off with the #15 Fort Lewis Skyhawks on Friday evening. The Hardrockers fell 93-82.
 
How it Happened – Neither team was able to get much going early in the first half, with Fort Lewis leading 5-0 at the first media timeout. The Hardrockers would get on the board with baskets from Alejandro Rama and Kolten Mortensen, but the Skyhawks would get out to a 14-4 lead after back-to-back threes from Obi Agbim. Fort Lewis would continue to expand their lead, going up 30-8 with just over five minutes to play. Late in the first half, Keagen Smith would score three straight driving buckets, but the Hardrockers would go into the locker room trailing 45-24.
 
The Hardrocker offense would start the second half hot, scoring eight points in the first four minutes, but Fort Lewis' offense would keep up and held a 53-32 lead. Rama would keep things rolling with seven straight points to bring the 'Rockers within 15, 53-39. A jumper by Brevin Walter would cut it to 10 with 13:15 to play. The Hardrockers would again cut it to 10 on a Walter layup with 7:35 to play. That was the closest South Dakota Mines would get as they eventually fell 93-82.
 
Notes – Keagen Smith and Brevin Walter scored 17 points each to lead the team…Alejandro Rama (16), Kolten Mortensen (11), Lloyd (10) all also scored in double figures…Smith and Kolton Frugoli added nine rebounds each.
 
Up Next – The Hardrockers stay in Colorado for a matchup with Adams State at 5:30 on Saturday.
