ALAMOSA, Colo. --- The South Dakota Mines men's basketball team faced off with Adams State on the road. The Hardrockers would earn a 91-81 victory to head into 2023 with momentum.
How it Happened – The Hardrockers got off to a good start, getting out to a 10-4 leader early in the first half.
Kolten Mortensen scored eight points early to proper the 'Rockers to an early double-digit lead. Adams State fought back to within two, but back-to-back three's from Mortensen and
Keagen Smith would regain control for the Hardrockers, leading 28-20 and would continue to score throughout the half, going into the locker room with a 55-40 lead.
To start the second half, Mortensen hit a three on
Alejandro Rama's fifth assist, then
Brevin Walter hit a layup to give the Hardrockers a 20-point lead, 60-40. Adams State would fight back, cutting the South Dakota Mines lead to 76-69 with 7:59 to go in the game. Walter, Mortensen, Rama and the Hardrocker offense would be too much, however, as South Dakota Mines would be victorious 91-81.
Notes – The Hardrockers shot 50% as a team from three-point range, hitting 14-28…
Brevin Walter led the scoring with 26 points…
Alejandro Rama added 22 and led the team with six assists…
Kolten Mortensen scored 17 points…
Keagen Smith, Rama, and Walter added five rebounds apiece to lead the team…
