Women's Basketball Falls to Regis

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines women's basketball team took on the Rangers from Regis University on Saturday afternoon at the King Center. The Rangers would defeat the Hardrockers 77-48.
 
How it Happened – Early in the first quarter, the Hardrockers battled, but trailed 13-6. Later in the quarter, the Hardrockers forced a 10-second violation, and then Madelyn Heiser hit a runner, getting some momentum going and tied the game 15-15. The Rangers hit a couple of buckets late in the quarter to grab a 20-17 lead heading into the second quarter. Lauren Herman led the Hardrockers with seven points.
 
The Hardrockers were held scoreless in the second quarter until Heiser hits another running jumper to bring the score to 23-19 Rangers. Both teams struggled in the first half of the second quarter and with 5:00 minutes left in the half, the Rangers held a 28-19 lead. At the end of the half, the Hardrockers trailed the Rangers 32-23.
 
Herman led the Hardrockers in the first half with eight points. Sydnee Durtsche and Herman each had five rebounds.
 
In the third quarter, Heiser hit a floating jumper to bring the Hardrockers to within eight 36-28 with seven minutes left. The Rangers would go on a 10-0 run to take a 46-28 lead with four minutes left in the quarter. The Rangers would pull away in the third outscoring the Hardrockers 26-10 to take a 58-33 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
The Hardrockers scored 11 points in the first part of the fourth quarter to bring the score to 72-44 in favor of the Rangers. The Hardrockers could not mount a comeback as the Rangers would go on to win the game 77-48.
 
Notes – Madelyn Heiser was 6-15 from the floor for 13 points to lead the Hardrockers…Sydnee Durtsche recorded a team-high nine rebounds…Heiser also led team in assists with 5.
 
Up Next - The Hardrockers will be back in action against Colorado School of Mines on Friday and MSU Denver on the road next Friday and Saturday.
