RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines women's basketball team faced the Beavers from Minot State University on Tuesday night at the King Center. The Beavers would win a close one 62-58 over the Hardrockers.
The Hardrockers jumped out to an early 12-3 lead with 4 minutes left in the quarter. Key three pointers by
Piper Bauer and
Lily Peterson helped the Hardrockers. The Beavers crept back into the game but the Hardrockers would end the first quarter up 16-9.
Naomi Hidalgo led the Hardrockers with four points.
The Hardrockers struggled with the Beavers defense in the first five minutes of the second quarter but still held onto a 23-15 lead. In the second half of the second quarter, the Hardrockers put up six points to take a 29-17 lead into the locker room. Hidalgo finished the half with nine points while Peterson has six.
The Hardrockers scored the first two points in the third, but the Beavers went on a 11-0 run to close the gap 31-28. The teams traded baskets for the next few minutes but with 3:55 remaining in the quarter the Hardrockers held a four-point lead 38-34. The Beavers would tie the score at the end of the half on a three pointer by Vilborg Jonsdottir. At the end of the third the score was 41-41.
The Beavers would take in the lead 43-41 early in the fourth quarter. With five minutes left in the game the Beavers held a slim 49-47 lead.
Madelyn Heiser tied the game 50-50 on a three pointer with four minutes left in the game.
Sydnee Durtsche would tie the game 54-54, but the Beavers' Kennedy Harris drained a three to take the lead back 57-54 with two minutes left. The Beavers went up by four 62-58 with 25 second to go in the game and that's how the game would end.
Notes – Hidalgo led the Hardrockers with 13 points while Durtsche had 12 points in the loss.
