Hardrocker Golf Sets Record on Day 1 in Billings

BILLINGS, Mont. --- The South Dakota Mines golf team opened up play at the Yellowjacket Invite at MSU Billings on Monday morning.

The women's A team sits in first place after shattering the previous school record for low round by shooting a 310. The previous record was a 324.

All five of the members of the team are sitting in the top-10 with Annika Schooler sitting in first after shooting a +4, 76 with Lora Ortega just one stroke behind sitting in a tie for second and teammates Rianna Garland (4th, +6 - 78), Mya Maxwell (T5, +7 - 79) and Summer Christiansen (T8, +8 - 80) keeping pace. Currently that team holds a 15-stroke lead over the second place UMary.

The Hardrocker women also have a b team playing and the are sitting in sixth place with Taylor Ullen leading them – sitting just outside the top-15 in a tie for 16th with an 83 in round 1. Jessalyn Shipp and Megan Alexander are in a tie for 23rd after shooting matching scores of 87. Portia Lenczowski and Julia Sabetti round out that team shooting an 89 and 93.

The men's A team also is sitting in a good position after playing 36 holes Monday. They shot a 295 and 294 in rounds 1 and 2 to sit in second place, just two strokes behind the University of Jamestown for second place. Joseph Vincent played very well in the second round, shooting a -4, 68 to finish the day in a tie for third place. Roger Nakagawa and Carson McDaniel shot 148 and 149 to both sit in the top-20, meanwhile Jake Francis' pair of 75's leaves him in a tie for 21st. Supawich Boonta shot 79 in both rounds to round out the team.

The B team, playing with four includes Ramey Lloyd (T8, +2 - 146), Braydon Jones (T13, +4, 148), Everette Carrol (32, 161) and Caeden Ekroth (T37, 165).

The Hardrockers will finish up tomorrow, with the men and women teeing off at 9:00 a.m.
