LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The South Dakota Mines volleyball team continued their winning ways Friday night as they defeated New Mexico Highlands 3-1.
How It Happened – New Mexico Highlands took the first set in a back-and-forth battle where thee The Hardrockers had a 15-14 lead but New Mexico Highlands took control late to win it 25-22.
However, as they have done so often lately, South Dakota Mines improved as the match went on, scoring 10 straight points to take a 14-7 lead in the second, eventually winning it 25-20.
Paisley Gibson had a big set with seven kills.
The Hardrockers had another big run in the third set, outscoring the Cowgirls 8-1, taking control 23-17, before winning it 25-20.
Jacey Koethe had six kills in the set.
In the fourth set, the Hardrockers took early control, going up 10-4 and then had another big run, scoring five straight and eight of nine with balanced play from
Kiley Metzger,
Victoria Zagorski,
Dejah Behrend,
Lily Bartling, Koethe, and Gibson all contributing to the 22-11 advantage and 25-17 set.
Notes – Jacey Koethe led the team with 15 kills, hitting .313 and adding three blocks…
Paisley Gibson added another double double with 12 kills and 14 digs…
Victoria Zagorski and
Dejah Behrend hit .538 and .533…
Kiley Metzger added five kills to go along with 45 assists…
Anna Thomas and
Ava Brunn added 26 and 12 digs.
Up Next – The Hardrockers look to make it four-in-a-row as they take on Adams State tomorrow for a 3:00 start.
