ALAMOSA, Colo. --- The South Dakota Mines volleyball team dropped an RMAC match to Adams State University on Saturday afternoon in Alamosa, Colo. The Grizzlies swept the Hardrockers 3-0. The loss drops the Hardrockers to 9-13 overall and 6-8 in RMAC play.
How It Happened – In the first set, the Adams State Grizzlies jumped out to a 5-3 lead over the Hardrockers. After a timeout, the Hardrockers scored two points to bring the set to 9-8 in favor of the Grizzlies. The Hardrockers would tie the set at 13-13 on a kill by
Jacey Koethe. The Hardrockers were down 19-16 but battled back to tie the set 19-19. ASU went ahead 24-19 but the Hardrockers came back to within one point 24-23, but the Grizzlies won the next point to take the set 25-23.
The Hardrockers and Grizzlies were neck and neck in the second set. The teams were tied 8-8, but then the Grizzlies took a 12-10 lead. The Hardrockers were down 20-14, but then they fought back to tie the set 21-21. But the Grizzlies would wind up winning the second set 26-24.
The third set started off similarly to the other two with both teams trading leads. Halfway through the set, the Grizzlies took a 9-7 lead. But the Hardrockers would tie the game 9-9 on an attack error by ASU. The Grizzlies would take a 22-16 lead but the Hardrockers stormed back to take a 24-23 lead. The Hardrockers would have set point 25-24 but then the Grizzlies scored three straight points to win the set 27-25 and the match 3-0.
Notes – Koethe ended the match with 15 kills.
Kiley Metzger had 31 assists, while
Anna Thomas had 21 digs.
Up Next – The Hardrockers will next take the court on Friday and Saturday at home against Colorado State University-Pueblo and University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
