CHADRON, Neb. --- Ryan Weiss set a new program record, hitting the 252nd three-pointer of her career, passing former teammate Sami Steffeck in the process, and moved up to #14 on the all-time scoring list. Despite this, the Hardrockers couldn't pull out the victory.
Early in the first quarter, Chadron State was able to get out to a 10-0 lead, before the Hardrockers would take a timeout.
Naomi Hidalgo would get the Hardrockers' first basket, with just under 5-minutes to play in the first quarter. Down 15-2, the Hardrocker offense would start to get moving, outscoring the Eagles 11-3 throughout the remainder of the quarter, going into the second trailing by 6, 19-13.
To start the second,
Bailey Johnson would hit a three-pointer, cutting the deficit to just three. The Eagles would regain the momentum, however, with Samiyah Worrell doing early damage in the second quarter pushing the Chadron State lead to 29-18. Hidalgo would continue her strong start, however, connecting on two more free throws, giving her 10 points, followed by a three-pointer from
Ryan Weiss cutting the deficit to 6 briefly, but Chadron State would continue to extend the lead, this time to 40-25 before a pair of free throws were hit by Weiss. The Hardrocker offense would continue to perform well but were not able to get the stops they needed to cut into the deficit, trailing 48-37 at halftime.
The third quarter would be more of the same until a
Makenna Bodette three-pointer brought the deficit back to single-digits, 54-46. A Weiss three would lead to a timeout with Chadron State leading 56-49. Out of the timeout, Weiss would hit another from deep, tying the all-time record at South Dakota Mines, but cutting the Chadron State lead to just 4. To end the third, Chadron State would extend the lead again, leading by 9.
In the fourth, the Hardrockers would continue to fight, cutting the deficit to just 2, 75-73 with under 5 minutes to play, but Chadron would continue to pull away, going back up 86-77. The Hardrockers would continue to fight, and
Ryan Weiss would hit a record-breaking three-pointer while falling to the ground to become the #1 three-point shooter in South Dakota Mines history.
