RAPID CITY, S.D. --- Ryan Weiss continues to move up the scoring leaderboard at South Dakota Mines, this time to #17 despite the Hardrockers falling against the #13 ranked Colorado School of Mines Orediggers in RMAC play on Saturday night in Goodell gymnasium.
The Orediggers jumped out to an 11-0 lead to start the game and were up 17-4 at the 5-minute mark in the first quarter. But the Hardrockers found their shot and cut the lead to 6 with 1 minute left in the quarter. The Orediggers led 26-20 when the buzzer went off to end the first quarter.
Naomi Hidalgo paced South Dakota Mines in the first quarter with 12 points.
In the second quarter, both teams slowed the pace down, but the Orediggers still had a hot hand starting the quarter on a 7-0 run. The Hardrockers never say die attitude brought the score to within two toward the end of the half on
Bailey Johnson's free throws. Colorado Mines scored one more point and the half ended 40-37 in favor of the Orediggers.
The Orediggers took control of the game in the 3rd quarter on both sides of the ball. Colorado Mines went on an 8-0 run late in the quarter to increase their lead 61-47. The quarter would end with the Orediggers up 65-50.
Ryan Weiss had 10 points in the quarter.
The fourth quarter saw the Orediggers expand on their lead with a well-balanced attack of offense and defense against the Hardrockers. The Hardrockers would fall to Colorado Mines 91-62.
