Hardrockers Compete In Yellow Jacket Open This Weekend at BHSU

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Mines men's and women's track and field teams have spent a lot of time up in Spearfish, South Dakota, this year. The Hardrockers competed in several meets during the indoor season and even the RMAC Indoor Championships were held in the Young Center.

The 'Rockers will make another trip up Interstate 90 this weekend as Black Hills State will be hosting the Yellow Jacket Spring Open Saturday and Sunday at Lyle Hare Stadium.

Competition begins Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with the decathlon followed by the heptathlon beginning at 1:30 p.m. Next up is the women's weight throw beginning at 2:00 p.m. with the men's weight throw to follow.

Running events will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the men's events followed by the women. Starting out the day on the track will be the steeplechase followed by the 4x100m relay, 1500m run, 110/100 hurdles, 400m dash, 100m dash, 800m run, 400 hurdles, 200m dash, 5000m run, and the final event of the meet will be the 4x400m relay.
 
Sunday the decathlon and heptathlon will wrap up competition beginning at 9:00 and 9:15 a.m., respectively followed by the 10K which the men and women will run together at 10:00 a.m. on the track. Field events begin at noon with the women competing in the pole vault, long jump, and shot put while the men will begin in high jump, and discus. Triple jump will follow the completion of long jump and javelin will begin at 2:00 p.m.
 
Teams joining the Yellow Jackets and Hardrockers include: Chadron State, Concordia-St. Paul, Dickinson State, University of Jamestown, Minot State, MSU Billings, Rocky Mountain College, University of Mary and Valley City State.
 
Fans are permitted to attend the Yellow Jackets Spring Open, however masks will be required to be worn by all those in attendance.
