PUEBLO, Colo. --- The South Dakota Mines men's and women's outdoor track and field teams kicked off the 2021 outdoor season at the CSU Pueblo Early Bird Invite Friday and Saturday in Pueblo, Colorado.
Hardrocker
Jenna Sayler had an outstanding meet taking second in the women's hammer throw (163-feet) and then placed third in the women's shot put as well as set a new school record in that event. Sayler's mark of 42-feet-4.25-inches bettered the old record of Michelle Ott in 2002 which was 40-9.
Other top performances for the Hardrocker women included:
Kamryn Scully earned second place in the pole vault after clearing a height of 11-9.75;
Jaycie Stubbs took third place in the javelin with a throw of 104-5;
Macy McClure finished fifth in the hammer throw (153-0) and then took seventh in the shot put (39-4.25);
Tana Dahlberg was seventh in the discus (122-1); and
Lindsay Butler finished seventh in the women's 5,000 run (19:30.70).
On the men's side,
Ryan Moen had a good first meet of the outdoor season earning second place in the men's 3,000 Steeplechase after clocking a time of 10:19.05.
Other Hardorcker men's highlights included:
Andrew Ferris finished fourth in the 1,500 (3:59.17);
Jade Cass secured fourth in the high jump after clearing a height of 6-6.75; Thayne Hage notched third in the javelin (167-7) and
Austin Hammer was fourth (155-3);
Warren Minerich posted a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw (157-2);
Steven Nolasco secured sixth place in the triple jump (42-6);
Taegen Wells earned sixth in the 110 high hurdles (15.71);
Joel Haas grabbed sixth in the 5,000 run (15:22.64); and the men's 4x400 team (Namyst Orozco, Ferris, Wells) was third in a time of 3:24.08.
Next up for the Hardrockers will be the Yellow Jacket Spring Invitationals this Saturday in Spearfish, South Dakota.
