COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- South Dakota School of Mines sophomore
Mitchell Sueker was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of The Week announced on Monday from the league office in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Mitchell Sueker, a 6-foot-9-inch forward from Marshall, Minnesota, had a great defensive effort this past weekend and helped the Hardrockers earn two wins at the King Center in Rapid City, South Dakota.
In a thrilling come-from-behind victory over New Mexico Highlands on Friday (101-94), the Electrical Engineering major collected 11 rebounds, 10 of which were defensive. He added 22 points and an assist in the 'W' and earned a double-double. That was followed with nine rebounds and a steal in Saturday's route of CSU-Pueblo (73-44). He added 15 points and four assists in the winning performance.
"Mitchell had a tremendous weekend for us," said Hardrocker men's basketball head coach
Eric Glenn. "Not only did he give us a great effort crashing the boards, he defended very well, holding his man --- in both game --- to well under their season average. It's great for Mitch to receive this award and I'm glad the rest of the conference is taking notice."
The Hardrockers have won four games in-a-row and are tied for fifth place in the conference standings. SD Mines plays host to Chadron State this Friday and MSU-Denver on Saturday evening.
