Eric Glenn

Eric Glenn a coaching veteran of 30 years was appointed the 11th head men’s basketball coach at South Dakota School of Mines & Technology on October 26, 2018. 

Glenn has led the program to qualifying for the only two RMAC tournaments in program history, playing in one and having the other cancelled due to COVID-19.


CAREER AT A GLANCE
  • Glenn was named South Dakota Mines’ 11th head men’s basketball coach at South Dakota Mines on October 26, 2018.
  • Prior to being named the head coach, Glenn spent 13 years as an assistant under former head coach Jason Henry.
  • In his time as an assistant, he helped six teams to winning seasons and coached 15 all-conference selections.
  • Several players have had opportunities to play professionally that have been coached by Glenn as Hardrockers, including Kolten Mortensen, Jake Heath and Jack Fiddler.
  • Earned 100th career collegiate win on 1/12/24 when the Hardrockers defeated Western Colorado.
  • Glenn has 27 years of coaching experience at the intercollegiate level, including seven years as a head coach.
  • Glenn has directed and worked at numerous basketball camps and clinics throughout the Midwest, which have included the University of Wyoming, Colorado State University, Chauncey Billups Basketball Camps, Creighton University, Mike Trader Basketball Camps and Montana State University. 
HARDROCKERS ON THE COURT

2023-24 Season
  • Finished 9-13 in RMAC play for the best RMAC record since 2020-21.
  • Alejandro Rama became a top 10 scorer in South Dakota Mines program history, finishing his career with 1,514 points for eighth all-time and #1 in the Division II era.
  • Rama and Cameron Cohn were named to the RMAC All-Conference Second Team and Keagen Smith was named Honorable Mention.
  • Cameron Cohn and Alejandro Rama finished the season in the top 5 in the RMAC in scoring, averaging 17.9 and 17.6 points per game.
  • Those same two finished in the top 10 in three-pointers made per game, with Rama making 2.5 to come in third and Cohn hitting 2.2 to come in eighth.
  • Rama also finished third in steals, averaging 2.1 per game.
2022-23 Season
  • Best stretch of the season occurred late in RMAC play when the team won three straight games from Feb. 10-Feb. 17 against Regis, UCCS and Adams State.
  • Alejandro Rama was named RMAC Offensive Player of the Week on 2/13/2023.
  • Brevin Walter earned a spot on the All-Conference team as a second team selection, while Kolten Mortensen and Alejandro Rama earned spots on the honorable mention team.
  • Walter reached 1,000 points for his career.
2021-22 Season
  • In early January the team briefly caught fire winning three in a row from January 2-8.
  • Rama was named RMAC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance from January 2-8.
  • The season ended strong with three wins in the last five games.
  • In 2021-22 the Hardrockers had three players named all-conference with Alejandro Rama, Brevin Walter, and Kolten Mortensen being named honorable mention.
2020-21 Season
  • The Hardrockers finished the 2020-21 season with a 9-9 overall record, with a 6-3 mark at home, qualifying for the RMAC Tournament, but being unable to play in the game due to COVID-19.
  • Towards the end of December, the Hardrockers started to play their best basketball, winning four of five games.
  • In what has become a theme of Glenn’s tenure, the Hardrockers went 6-3 at home on the year.
  • Senior Wilfred Dickson was named All-RMAC Second Team with Alejandro Rama and Kolten Mortensen named honorable mention.
2019-20 Season
  • In Glenn’s second year as head coach the Hardrockers had their most successful season to date in his tenure, going 17-13 and qualifying for the program’s first ever RMAC tournament.
  • South Dakota Mines had two three-game winning streaks and a third winning streak of six games.
  • Playing well at home was key to the success on the season, going 10-2 at the King Center.
  • In the opening round of the RMAC Tournament, the Hardrockers went to Spearfish, and knocked off rival Black Hills State University.
  • Mitchell Sueker and Allec Williams were named All-RMAC Second Team with Logan Elers earning an honorable mention honor.
2018-19 Season
  • Taking over head coaching duties just before the season started, the Hardrockers started off 2-0 with a sweep in the conference challenge, defeating Texas A&M University-Kingsville and Texas A&M International University.
  • The Hardrockers found their stride in December winning three of four but would ultimately finish 12-18 on the season.
  • Home court was held by the Hardrockers, winning 9 of 14 games at the King Center.
  • Logan Elers and Mitchell Sueker were honored with All-RMAC Second Team selections.
HARDROCKERS IN THE CLASSROOM
  • 27 student-athletes have earned RMAC All-Academic honors under Coach Glenn’s watch.
  • The men’s basketball team has completed each of the last three semesters with combined GPAs over 3.0.
  • There have been 10 individual 4.0 semesters since Fall of 2022.
  • Logan Elers earned the programs’ first RMAC Academic Player of the Year honor in 2020.
  • Four student-athletes have earned Academic All-District through CoSida/College Sports Communicators since 2019, with Keagen Smith earning the award in 2022-23 and 2023-24, along with teammate, Brannagh Walsh earning it in 23-24.
  • Wilfred Dickson was the most recent RMAC All-Academic First Team selection, earning the honor in 2021.
  • In 2018-19, Mitchell Sueker and Logan Elers earned first team academic all-conference honors and followed that up again in 2019-20.
RISING UP THE RANKS
  • Glenn began his coaching career at alma mater Chadron State from 1993-1995.
  • His coaching career began with success in 1993, winning a share of the conference title and going 17-9.
  • In his two years at Chadron State, Glenn coached three all-conference selections
  • In 1995, Glenn jumped to Division I level, getting a job as an assistant under Bob Knight protégé Joby Wright.
  • In two years at Wyoming, Glenn helped them finished with an overall record of 26-31.
  • Five different players earned all-conference honors as Cowboys under Glenn.
  • After his tenure at Wyoming, Glenn left the Collegiate level and spent a year at Scottsbluff High School where he led the team to a District B-6 Championship and an appearance at the Nebraska State Tournament.
  • He then came back to college, first as an assistant at Missouri Valley College (1998-1999), before being named head coach (2000-2003).
  • Glenn made a mark at Missouri Valley, leading them to the best conference finish in four years, hosting, and winning playoff games in two of his three years, and being nominated for conference coach of the year twice.
  • In 2003, he came to a familiar area, becoming the assistant coach at Black Hills State, prior to first joining the Hardrockers as an assistant coach in 2005.
  • During his 13 years as an assistant, 16 players earned all-conference honors.
  • The best season came in 2012-13 after the move to Division II when the Hardrockers went 10-0 at home and 17-9 overall.
PLAYING CAREER
  • Glenn played collegiately at Chadron State from 1988-1992.
  • He began his career as a dual-sport athlete, playing football and basketball for two years before focusing on basketball his final two years.
PERSONAL
  • Glenn graduated from Chadron State with a Bachelor of Science degree in business education in 1993, before going on to earn a Master of Arts degree in sports and recreation management in 1995.
  • Glenn and his wife, Lorna have three children, Jarek, Peyton and Josie.
