Hardrockers Notch 2 School Record at Mankato Indoor T&F Meet

MANKATO, Minn.  --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's and women's track and field teams netted some solid results as the Hardrockers competed in the Tom Nelson Indoor Invitational this past Saturday in Mankato, Minnesota.

In a high powered and highly competitive meet, the 'Rockers came away with one event winner, five Top 5  finishes seven personal-best records and two school records.

Erica Keeble has had an outstanding indoor season competing in the pole vault. She's been toward the top of the ranking in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and hanging tough on the national scale as well. During Saturday's event, Keeble cleared a height of 3.95 meters which improved on her provisional qualification and improved on her SD Mines school record and was a PR to boot. Keeble now ranks second in the RMAC standings.

"This meet was a great opportunity for us to face some more competitive fields," said Hardrocker track and field head coach Steve Johnson said. "Erica had a fantastic day in the vault and is positioning herself well for the conference and national meets."

Adeline Straatmeyer also improved on her own school record during the women's 3,000 run on Saturday. Straatmeyer registered a new best-ever time of 10:28 .60 which yielded her fifth place in the race.

"Addie ran a terrific race in the 3K, as well," Johnson said. "She did a great job working her way through a very competitive field."

Other Hardrocker highlight from Saturday included: Casey Skillingstad cleared a height of 4.43 meter in the men's pole vault to secure fourth place in the event; Cody Allen took fourth in the men's shot put after a toss of 15.91 meters; and the 4x400 relay team consisting of Korder Crospey, Kevin Ptak, Tel Bostwick and Jonathon Murray took fourth at the meet, clocking a time of 3:23.71.

"We can't rest on our laurels. We have a lot of work to get done in the next two weeks as we prepare for the RMAC Championship Meet," Johnson added.
