SPEARFISH, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's and women's track and field teams put forth a solid effort Saturday afternoon during the Black Hills State Stinger Indoor Open at the Young Center Field House in Spearfish, South Dakota.
The Hardrocker men finished second in the meet with 137 points while the Hardrockers women earned fourth place with 51 points.
Erica Keeble had an outstanding day, winning the women's pole vault and automatically qualifying for the NCAA Div. II National Indoor Championships after clearing a hight of 13-feet-3.5-inches. That mark also broke her own school record. Keeble's height is No. 1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Confernce and she is currently rnaked third in the nation.
Jeremy Gonzales earned top honors in the men's 60-meter dash. He qualified for finals after clocking a 7.20 and then posted a fast time of 7.12 to take first place in the finals. He followed that with a fourth-place finish in the men's 200 dash with a time of 23.48.
Kevin Ptak also had a great day, taking first place in the men's 200 dash after registering a time of 22.98.
The men's 4x400 relay team made up of
Tel Bostwick,
Isaac Orozco,
Chase Wood and
Jacob Huber finished first in the event after clocking a time of 3:31.32.
Casey Skillingstad cleared a height of 15-0 and earned first place in the men's pole vault while teammate
Cole Smith took runner-up after clearing a height of 14-6.
In the throwing events,
Cody Allen secured the top spot in te men's shot put after a throw of 50-6.75, and
Westley Siebdrath registered a second-place finish in the men's weight throw after a toss of 52-3.75.
