2018 Season One For The Ages

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The 2018 South Dakota School of Mines football campaign was one for the books --- literally.

The Hardrockers closed out the season breaking or tying 40 all-time school records. The 'Rockers had one of the best offenses in the country this year and left their mark as one of the best in Hardrocker history.

"It was a really special year for the High Octane 'Rocker Offense and the production that our team put out every Saturday," said Hardrocker football head coach Zach Tinker. "Of all the good offenses, and in this case -- a great one -- that I've been fortunate enough to be around in my career, this group in 2018 was so much fun to work with."

"Often when an offense has multiple weapons, guys are competing for touches with each other and feelings get hurt or guys complain about not getting their touches," Tinker said. "We didn't have to deal with that one time the entire year. Guys just stepped up for each other and performed."

It was truly a team effort that the entire squad can look back on and know that they had a hand in being one of the best teams to ever wear the blue and gold.

"Some games required us to feature Connor Silveria and Kevin Thompson at running back. Some weeks we needed to attack the middle of the field with Joe Luebbers, Ira Murphey, and Anthony Ullrich," Tinker said. "Obviously the combination of Jake Sullivan to Isaiah Manley was a constant from Week 1 through Week 11, but when teams made a concerted effort to provide help on Isaiah, our other outside guys were able to get loose."

Jake Sullivan made his final season for the Hardrockers one to remember. Appearing in all 11 games, Sullivan was able to put his name next to every single quarterback record that the Hardrockers track along with other major SD Mines milestones.

"I've never had a quarterback play at the level Jakeb Sullivan performed at in 2018. "The driving force behind it all was Robert Schrock at center and the consistency and quality of our offensive line play. Robert brought his group together and quietly led the big boys to a great year in the trenches," Tinker added. "When our running backs were healthy, we were able to provide a real balance between run and pass."
