Box Score LAKEWOOD, Colo. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team put up a tough fight but couldn't quite get the momentum the Hardrockers needed as Colorado Christian downed SD Mines, 3-0, in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match Friday night in Lakewood, Colo.
The Cougars defeated the Lady 'Rockers, 25-15, 26-24, 25-16. SD Mines finished the match going 94-113 on the attack with 25 kills and tallied 22 assists, 47 digs and 12 total blocks. CCU collected 43 kills and was 98-112 on the attack and had 40 assists, 59 digs and nine total blocks.
"A slow start doomed us in the first set, so we made things tough for ourselves at the start," said Hardrocker volleyball head coach
Doug Tabbert. "We played much better in the second set and really let it slip away. If we make a couple routine defensive plays at the end, we are 1-1 and the match takes a different turn. We had our moments in the third but we were too inconsistent."
Individually for SD Mines, sophomore
Anna Breidt pace her team with nine kills and was 18-22 on the attack while junior
Emily Newton was 17-20 on the attack with seven kills. Freshman
Allie Boggs tallied 14 assists while freshman
Allie Brown collected 18 digs for the Hardrockers.
"It was a solid effort from our middles but we didn't get enough offense from other places," Tabbert added. "We need to solve that issue moving forward.
SD Mines fall to 1-14 on the season and 0-5 in the RMAC. The Hardrockers are back in action Saturday evening in Golden, Colo., taking on Colorado Mines in a 5 p.m. bout.
