Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The South Dakota School of Mines traveled to Las Vegas, N.M., for a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match Friday evening where the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls shutout the Hardrockers, 3-0.
New Mexico Highlands defeated SD Mines, 25-20, 25-19, 25-18. The Hardrockers finished with 27 kills and was 71-90 on the attack with 27 assists, 37 digs and 10 total blocks. The Mustangs tallied 37 kills while going 79-95 on the attack and racked up 35 assists, 41 digs and seven total blocks.
"It's definitely a challenge for us right now," said Hardrocker volleyball head coach
Doug Tabbert. We were too inconsistent to get thing rolling tonight. Twice we had chances in the first set to take control and we just didn't do it. Sets 2 and 3 were similar."
One of the biggest factors in Friday's match was the serving by NMHU. The Cowgirls notched 14 aces in the match.
Individually for the Hardrockers, sophomore
Anna Breidt pace SD Mines with seven kills and was 20-22 on the attack and collected five blocks. Junior
Emily Newton and freshman Kenzie Devries contributed with five kills each. Freshman Allie Bogs added 11 assists and sophomore
Elizabeth Jensen tacked on seven. Jensen also led the team with nine digs.
"We had some opportunities that we took advantage of and others we lost," Tabbert said. "We have to block better on the left and right sides and we have to fine more offense. Those aspects of the game have got to improve if we are going to make progress."
The Hardrockers fall to 0-11 on the season and 0-3 in RMAC play. Next up, SD Mines takes on Colorado State-Pueblo Saturday at 3 p.m.
