RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Soccer blanked Adams State 6-0 to close non-conference play on Sunday afternoon.
In a rain-filled game at Dakota Fields, the Hardrockers ended non-conference play with a dominant 6-0 victory over Adams State.
The Hardrockers scored quickly with three goals in the first eight minutes.
Nickolas North picked up three assists on the first three goals for the Rockers, a new South Dakota Mines record.
Julen Arteaga scored in the fifth and the eighth minute to give the Rockers a 2-0 lead.
22 seconds after Arteaga's second goal,
Lucas Miranda found the back of the net to make the score 3-0. The Hardrockers kept the pressure on, scoring a fourth goal in the 39
th minute from
Rider Grow, his second goal of the weekend.
Ethan French made it 5-0 in the 42
nd minute. Grow and
Bennett Dykstra both had an assist in that goal to give the Hardrockers a 5-0 lead at halftime.
To open the second half,
Kaulden Hood made it 6-0 in the 48
th minute.
Erik Castanon recorded the assist. Both teams remained scoreless the rest of the way.
In total, the Hardrockers had 33 shots and 18 shots on goal, both marks in the top four of program history.
Arteaga totaled two goals, three shots on goal and four shots in 42 minutes. North played just 20 minutes and recorded three assists. Castanon rcollected three shots, two shots on goal and one assist. Off the bench, French and
Lucas Cardona tallied up three shots. Caludio Otto collected his first shutout of the year with two saves made.
South Dakota Mines improved to 4-1-2 with the win. They sit in third place with RMAC play up next.
What's Next
The Hardrockers will host their RMAC opener against Colorado School of Mines on Sept. 25 at 3 p.m. After that, they will go on the road for three ranked matches against Regis, UCCS and CSU Pueblo.
