RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Volleyball dropped a home RMAC contest to UCCS 3-1 on Friday night at the King Center.
The Hardrockers took the first set 25-19 from the Mountain Lions. With a 7-7 tie, the Hardrockers recorded an 8-1 run to go up 15-8. The Rockers had five kills and two blocks in that run. Another 4-0 run later in the set made the score 20-12.
Maria Bouman ended the set with a kill to give the Rockers a 25-19 victory.
After the Rockers won the first set, UCCS bounced back and would win the next three sets 25-23, 25-18 and 25-22. At the end of the fourth set, the Rockers attempted a comeback as they trailed 24-19. Three straight kills would make the score 24-22, but the Mountain Lions ended the match with a kill from Nicole Himebauch.
Cate Warren hit for .444 with 18 kills for the Hardrockers.
Lexi Glendenning totaled 13 kills and five digs, while Bouman recorded seven kills, six blocks, six digs and three aces.
Allison Nowak led the team with 19 digs, while
Emily Henderson picked up a double-double with 23 assists and 14 digs.
The Hardrockers hit for .196, while UCCS complied a .214 hitting percentage. South Dakota Mines had 73 digs, 50 kills, 46 assists, nine blocks and six service aces.
With the loss, the Hardrockers dropped to 11-4 overall and 3-2 in the RMAC.
What's Next
The Rockers welcome the Roadrunners from MSU Denver on Saturday at 3 p.m. After that contest, they go to New Mexico Highlands and Adams State next weekend.
