Mansfield Joins 1,000 Point Club, Hardrockers Edge Minnesota Crookston 80-79

CROOKSTON, Minn. – South Dakota Mines Women's Basketball took down Minnesota Crookston 80-79 to end non-conference play.

The Hardrockers outscored the Golden Eagles 17-16 in the first quarter. Addison Miranda made two three-pointers in the first six minutes to give the Hardrockers a 10-5 lead. With a five-point lead late, the Golden Eagles went on a 5-1 run to make it a one-point game.

In the second quarter, Minnesota Crookston outscored South Dakota Mines 24-17. The Golden Eagles started the quarter with a 10-0 run to take a 26-17 lead. Abigail Dille brought it down to a five-point deficit with 2:46 left. The Golden Eagles led 40-34 at the end of the quarter.

The Hardrockers staged a comeback in the second half, outscoring Minnesota Crookston 46-39. With a nine-point Golden Eagles lead midway through the third quarter, the Hardrockers went on an 8-0 run to make it a one-point game. The Golden Eagles made a last-second bucket to make the score 56-59 at the end of the third.

South Dakota Mines won 80-79 after winning the fourth quarter 24-20. A three-point play from Spotted Bear gave South Dakota Mines a 64-63 lead with 7:55 left. The Golden Eagles responded and took a seven-point lead midway through the quarter. A 10-2 Hardrockers run gave them the lead back with 45 seconds remaining. After the Golden Eagles took the lead, Savea Mansfield made a jumper with two seconds left to give the Hardrockers an 80-79 victory.

Spotted Bear put up 27 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals. She was 12-for-23 from the field. Mansfield totaled 26 points and eight rebounds with 11-for-17 shooting. Abigail Dille was 5-for-8 from the field with 13 points. Emma Martin and Carolina Ruiz Molina both had four assists.

As a team, the Hardrockers shot 45.8% from the field and 25% from three-point range. Their 22 total assists were the most in a single game since Mar. 3, 2020, against Westminster.

Mansfield eclipsed 1,000 points in her career against the Golden Eagles. She is the seventh Hardrocker in the NCAA DII era to eclipse 1,000 career points.
 
What's Next

The 5-7 Hardrockers will be on the road next week to take on MSU Denver on Jan. 8 at 5:30 p.m., followed by Colorado School of Mines on Jan. 10 at 1 p.m.
