RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Women's Basketball fell to Adams State 74-101 to close out their homestand on Saturday.
The Grizzlies outscored the Hardrockers 22-15 in the first quarter.
Addison Miranda and
Carolina Ruiz Molina both hit three-pointers early to give the Rockers a 6-2 lead. A 10-3 run gave Adams State a 12-9 lead midway through the quarter. The Grizzlies put up a 10-4 run made it 22-15 at the end of the quarter.
Adams State had everything working in the second quarter, outscoring South Dakota Mines 20-9. They went on a 14-2 run until Miranda broke it with a layup. That started a 7-3 run to make the score 24-39. Three free throws at the end of the half made the score 24-42 at halftime.
In the third, Adams State outscored the Rockers 31-26. They started the quarter on a 12-2 run to go up 54-26. They put up six more points after
Savea Mansfield's layup. Midway through the quarter, the Rockers put up a 19-6 run to make it a 19-point game. The Grizzlies held a 23-point lead at the end of the quarter.
The Hardrockers tried to stage a comeback but fell 74-101 after being outscored 28-24 in the fourth quarter. The Hardrockers went on a 10-0 run to start the quarter and make the score 60-73. With a 12-point deficit, the Grizzlies responded with a 10-1 run to go up 85-64. The lead carried them to the end as the Grizzlies won 101-74.
Mansfield led the team with 17 points.
Morning Grace Spotted Bear collected 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Molina tallied 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Abigail Dille totaled 13 points off the bench.
South Dakota Mines shot 34.9% from the field, 25.9% from beyond the arc and 88.5% from the free throw line. They had 26 points in the paint and 18 bench points.
With the loss, the Rockers moved to 6-10 overall and 4-4 in the RMAC.
What's Next
Five of the next six games for the Rockers are on the road, starting with Western Colorado on Thursday and Westminster on Saturday. They come back home to face Chadron State on Jan. 29 at 5:30 p.m.
