Hardrockers Face Fort Lewis for Homecoming

RAPID CITY, SD – South Dakota Mines Football is set to take on Fort Lewis on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. for Homecoming.

Series History

South Dakota Mines is 6-3 all-time against Fort Lewis dating back to 2011. The Hardrockers lost their first three games against the Skyhawks, the Hardrockers have won six straight against Fort Lewis. Last season, South Dakota Mines won 49-33 in Durango, Colorado.

About the Skyhawks

Fort Lewis is 1-2 this season with an 0-1 record in the RMAC. After dropping their first game at William Jewell, they topped Arizona Christian 58-10 on Sept. 6. Last week, the Skyhawks dropped their RMAC opener 19-25 against Black Hills State.  

Solomon Latimer leads the team with 143 receiving yards and two touchdowns this season. Jacob Morris has two touchdowns in the air, while four different Skyhawks have a touchdown on the ground. Jake Penney has 34 tackles this season. Fort Lewis was picked to finish in ninth this season in the RMAC Preseason Poll.

About the Hardrockers

Through four games, South Dakota Mines is 0-4 and 0-2 in RMAC play. All four of the Hardrockers opponents have received votes in the top 25 at some point this season. Last week, the Hardrockers fell 42-48 in overtime at New Mexico Highlands. Quarterback Gage Baker had five total touchdowns with 317 passing yards against the Cowboys.

Baker has 826 passing yards with six touchdowns so far this season. In the air, Jacoby Ogbonna has 24 receptions for 246 yards and two touchdowns this season. Defensively, Will Lester has 36 tackles this season, while Charlie Johnson is second with 31 tackles. The Hardrockers have forced three fumbles through four games.

What's Next

The Hardrockers will play in the 140th Black Hills Brawl next week in Spearfish, South Dakota. That game is scheduled for Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. They will return home on Oct. 11 to face Colorado School of Mines.
