RAPID CITY, SD – South Dakota Mines Football is back on the road this week at Upper Iowa to close out non-conference play.
Series History
The Hardrockers and Peacocks are tied 1-1 in their all-time matchup. They first played back on Sept. 9, 1972, which was an Upper Iowa 20-6 win. South Dakota Mines won their game last season 17-10 at home against the Peacocks. That win sparked a three-game winning streak for the Hardrockers.
About the Peacocks
Upper Iowa is 0-1 this season after a 7-41 loss at Drake on Aug. 28. In that game, quarterback Darryl Overstreet Jr. was 15-for-26 with 174 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Wide receiver Mante Morrow caught five passes for 85 yards and a touchdown.
In their game last year, every score came in the first half. Overstreet Jr. completed 13 passes for 160 yards and one touchdown in that game. As a team, the Peacocks went 7-4 overall and 6-2 in the GLVC last season. They won four of their last five games to secure their seven-win season.
About the Hardrockers
South Dakota Mines is 0-2 this season after facing two teams that are receiving votes in the AFCA Top 25. Last week at O'Harra Stadium, (RV) Michigan Tech topped the Hardrockers 45-9. Freshman wide receiver
Jacoby Ogbonna recorded 61 yards in the air. He leads all Hardrocker receivers with 13 catches for 154 yards through two games.
Gage Baker leads the quarterbacks with 248 yards so far this season. On the defensive side,
Will Lester leads the team with his 18 tackles, including 13 solo tackles.
Aiden Werlinger has 1.5 sacks for South Dakota Mines. Werlinger has a forced fumble this season, while
Charlie Johnson has a fumble recovery.
