RAPID CITY, S.D. – After a historic performance from
Jason Lee, South Dakota Mines Men's Basketball fell to Black Hills State 104-76 on Tuesday night at the King Center.
The first half was back-and-forth as the Yellow Jackets led 45-40 at halftime.
Jason Lee recorded the first nine points for the Hardrockers as it was a 9-9 tie at the 15 minute mark. Black Hills State went out to a six-point lead midway through the half.
A layup and a three-pointer from
Gavin Soukup later made the score 24-24 with 8:02 left in the half.
Gray Thompson tied it again with a three-pointer and Lee drained one later. Four BHSU three-pointers at the end of the half gave them a 45-40 lead after 20 minutes.
Black Hills State outscored South Dakota Mines 59-36 in the second half to win 104-76. After Soukup made it 51-56 early in the half, the Yellow Jackets went on a 10-0 run to go up 66-51. They held a double digit lead all the way to the end of the game.
Lee put up 42 points for the Hardrockers on 13-for-27 field goal shooting. His 42 points were three away from the all-time South Dakota Mines record, held by Brevin Walter's 45 points in 2022. He also added two rebounds, two assists and one block.
Gray Thompson totaled 13 points and seven rebounds. Soukup collected 12 points, while
Ryan Sweeney grabbed eight rebounds.
The Hardrockers shot 39.7% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range. They had 34 points in the paint and 12 bench points.
What's Next
South Dakota Mines returns to action on Saturday to face Chadron State at 3 p.m. in Chadron, Nebraska. They return home for three straight home games, starting with Colorado Christian on Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
