CHADRON, Neb. – South Dakota Mines Men's Basketball moved to 1-1 in the RMAC after defeating Chadron State 82-78 at the Chicoine Center.
The Eagles outscored the Hardrockers 45-41 in the first half. With a 4-2 Hardrocker lead, the Eagles put in two three-pointers to go up 8-4. Those shots kept coming as Chadron State went up 17-10. A
Gavin Soukup three-pointer with 12:07 left made it 17-21.
Chadron State went up by 12 points in the middle of the half.
Ryan Sweeney landed a three-pointer with 4:48 left to make it a seven-point game. Sweeney brought it down to a 37-41 game later in the half. The Eagles led 45-41 at the end of the first half.
South Dakota Mines staged a comeback as they outscored the Eagles 41-33 to win 82-78.
Jason Lee opened the scoring with a three-pointer at the beginning of the half. A steal and a dunk from
Darren Wallace at the 16:57 mark tied the game 50-50. With a 52-52 tie, the Hardrockers went on a 12-2 run to go up 64-54.
The Eagles went on a 9-0 run to go up by two towards the end of the half. The Hardrockers responded with a 7-0 run to go up 79-74 with 25 seconds left.
Gray Thompson landed a three-pointer to start that run. The Hardrockers made free throws at the end of the half to win 82-78 over the Eagles.
Lee totaled 19 points, five rebounds, five steals and one assist. Sweeney recorded 16 points and five rebounds. Thompson put up 12 points, five rebounds and two blocks.
The Hardrockers shot 46.7% from the field and 26.9% from beyond the arc. They totaled 42 points in the paint, 23 points off turnovers and 39 rebounds.
South Dakota Mines moved to 3-6 overall and 1-1 in the RMAC following the win.
What's Next
The Hardrockers come back home to face Colorado Christian on Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m., followed by a contest against CSU Pueblo on Dec. 13 at 3 p.m.
