RAPID CITY, S.D. – The 140
th Black Hills Brawl, college football's fourth-most played game, will take place on Saturday night at Lyle Hare Stadium at 6 p.m.
Series History
This will be the 140
th edition of the Black Hills Brawl, with South Dakota Mines holding a 66-62-11 record. The first game took place all the way back on Nov. 28, 1895 in Hot Springs, South Dakota.
The road team has won each of the last four matchups in the rivalry. Black Hills State took the Homestake Trophy back last season after they won 22-20 at O'Harra Stadium. In the last game at Lyle Hare Stadium, the Hardrockers dominated the Yellow Jackets with a 49-14 win. South Dakota Mines is 12-20-2 all-time in Spearfish.
About the Yellow Jackets
Black Hills State goes into this game with a 1-4 overall record and 1-2 RMAC record. After dropping their first three games of the season, they topped Fort Lewis on Sept. 20 in Durango, Colorado. Last week, they fell to (RV) Colorado School of Mines 27-36. Black Hills State started the 2024 season 1-3 before their 22-20 victory against the Hardrockers.
Quarterback Luke Duby is leading the offense this season with 1,234 passing yards and 11 touchdowns. His 246.8 yards per game is second in the RMAC. TJ Chukwurah is first in the RMAC and second in NCAA DII with 558 receiving yards this season. His nine receiving touchdowns are the most in Division II. The Yellow Jackets were picked to finish tied for fifth in the RMAC Preseason Poll.
About the Hardrockers
South Dakota Mines has an identical 1-4 overall record and 1-2 RMAC record going into the Black Hills Brawl. The Hardrockers lost their first four games against teams that have received votes in the top 25 this season. Last week for Homecoming against Fort Lewis, South Dakota Mines pulled off a fourth quarter comeback to win 22-21.
Gage Baker threw for 310 yards in that contest.
In RMAC contests this season, Baker is the best quarterback in the league with his 265 yards per game. In four RMAC games, the redshirt freshman has 1,060 yards with eight touchdowns. His top receiver has been freshman
Jacoby Ogbonna, who has 29 catches for 304 yards and three touchdowns this season. On the defense,
Will Lester has 42 tackles to lead the team. In the RMAC Preseason Coaches poll, the Hardrockers were picked tied for fifth with the Yellow Jackets.
