Hardrocker Volleyball Sweep Regis and Chadron State

CHADRON, Neb. – South Dakota Mines Volleyball picked up two sweeps over the weekend at Regis and Chadron State.

Match 1: Hardrockers at Regis, 3-0 W

To start a five-game road trip, the Hardrockers took down Regis 3-0.

South Dakota Mines won the first set 25-18. In a set where they recorded a .314 hitting percentage, the Hardrockers dominated early. They took a 10-3 lead early in the set over the Rangers. With a 13-8 lead, the Hardrockers put up a 9-3 run to go up 22-11. Regis attempted a comeback, but it was too much as South Dakota Mines won 25-18.

In the second set, the Hardrockers won 25-18 again. Both teams were back-and-forth early until the Hardrockers went out to an 11-8 lead. A 7-2 run gave them a 22-16 lead to eventually win 25-18.

The Hardrockers completed the sweep with a 25-20 win in set three. Regis went out to an early 9-4 lead early in the set. South Dakota Mines recorded a 10-4 run to make it a 14-13 game. With a 19-20 deficit, the Hardrockers put up six straight points to win 25-20.

Lexi Glendenning led the match with 12 kills. Kiera Walsh recorded eight kills, four blocks and a .357 hitting percentage. Morgan Daugherty, Louisa Battin and Ivy Vindivich all had six kills for the Hardrockers. Hannah Benes tallied 20 digs in the Hardrockers sweep.

As a team, South Dakota Mines put up 43 kills, nine blocks and 71 digs. They hit .212 in the match and held the Rangers to a .070 hitting percentage.

Match 2: Hardrockers at Chadron State, 3-0 W

In their second match of the weekend, South Dakota Mines swept Chadron State 3-0 on Saturday night.

The Hardrockers won the first set 25-19 over the Eagles. In a back-and-forth first half of the set, the Hardrockers broke it open with a five-point run to take a 16-12 lead. While the Eagles kept it close, the Hardrockers were able to close out the set with a 25-19 win.

South Dakota Mines won the second set 25-20 to take a 2-0 lead in the match. With an 8-12 deficit in the middle of the set, the Hardrockers put up five points in six tries to tie the score 13-13. A four-point run gave them an 18-15 lead. Daugherty closed out the set with a kill for the Hardrockers.

In the third, South Dakota Mines dominated Chadron State 25-15 to win 3-0. The Hardrockers went out to an 11-2 lead that would turn into 17-9. Both teams played back-and-forth as South Dakota Mines closed out the match with a 25-15 win.

Vindivich recorded 13 kills, five digs, two blocks and a .393 hitting percentage for the Hardrockers. Daugherty put up a .474 hitting percentage and 10 kills. Glendenning tallied eight kills and Maria Bouman had six. Benes collected 21 digs, and Hannah Joseph totaled 20 assists.

The Hardrockers had a team .304 hitting percentage with their 45 kills. They totaled seven aces and 52 digs in the match.

With the two wins, the Hardrockers moved to 7-13 overall and 5-5 in the RMAC. They moved to ninth place in the RMAC standings with four conference matches left.

What's Next

South Dakota Mines is back in action next weekend at the RMAC Power Pod. They will face Colorado Mesa on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by #12 MSU Denver on Saturday at 4 p.m. Both matches will be played at MSU Denver and will be non-conference matchups.
