LAKEWOOD, Colo. – South Dakota Mines Soccer went 0-1-1 on the road this weekend to start their four-game road trip.
Match 1: Hardrockers at MSU Denver, 1-2 L
In their first match of the weekend, the Hardrockers fell 1-2 at MSU Denver on Friday night.
Goalkeeper
Daniel Freitas saw nine shots in the first 28 minutes of the match. Three of them were on net as he collected three saves for the Hardrockers. Rhyson Johnston made it 1-0 in the 29
th minute for the Roadrunners.
Jacob Polo was saved in the last minute of the first half.
In the 53
rd minute of the second half, the Hardrockers received a penalty kick.
Nickolas North scored his eighth goal of the season to tie the score 1-1. Noah Miller scored the go-ahead goal in the 85
th minute to guide MSU Denver to a 2-1 win over the Hardrockers.
North and Polo had the lone shots on goal for the Hardrockers.
Lucas Cardona,
Zach Peroff and
Erik Castanon all had one shot. Freitas totaled four saves.
Match 2: Hardrockers at Colorado Christian, 3-3 T
South Dakota Mines picked up a point in a 3-3 draw at Colorado Christian on Sunday.
The Hardrockers were on the board first from an amazing
Jacob Miklas goal. Miklas curled in a goal off a corner kick in the 22
nd minute to give the Hardrockers a 1-0 lead. Just a minute and a half later, the Cougars made it 1-1. Salvador Fernandes scored his second goal of the game in the 42
nd minute as the Cougars went into the locker room with a 2-1 lead over the Hardrockers.
In the 55
th minute, North scored a goal to tie the score 2-2.
Lucas Cardona picked up an assist on the goal. 12 minutes later, Colorado Christian took a 3-2 lead. North put in his second goal of the game and third of the weekend in the 71
st minute to tie the score 3-3. That score would hold as both teams left with a point.
North led the team with four shots and two goals. Miklas scored and tallied two shots.
Rider Grow also had two shots for the Hardrockers. Freitas made two saves against the Cougars.
South Dakota Mines moved to 6-4-3 overall and 1-4-1 in the RMAC. They are in ninth place and in the hunt for an RMAC Tournament berth.
What's Next
The Hardrockers will stay on the road this week for two more matches. They will play Westminster on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m., followed by a road contest at Colorado Mesa on Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. South Dakota Mines return home on Oct. 30 to face #18 Fort Lewis.
