RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Football fell 14-24 to Colorado School of Mines at O'Harra Stadium on Saturday.
Colorado School of Mines set the tone with a touchdown on their opening drive. Midway through the first quarter, the Hardrockers tied the score 7-7.
Dawson Dunbar recorded a 23 yard run, followed by a 44 yard run to put the Hardrockers inside the 20 yard line. Dunbar picked up a seven yard touchdown to tie the game.
On the next drive, the Orediggers took a 14-7 lead. In the middle of the second quarter,
Bryson Patten punted a ball 75 yards, the second-longest punt of any RMAC punter this season.
The Hardrockers went into the locker room with a 7-14 deficit to the Orediggers.
In the middle of the third quarter, the Orediggers went on a 15-play touchdown drive to take a 21-7 lead.
With a 24-7 Oredigger lead in the fourth, the Hardrockers attempted a comeback. Dunbar put the Hardrockers at the 30 yard line and
Mason Galbreath caught a 30 yard touchdown pass from
Gage Baker.
However, the Orediggers defense stood tall at the end of the game as they topped South Dakota Mines 24-14.
Dunbar ran for 117 yards with one touchdown. He recorded 8.4 yards per carry.
Ty Harris picked up 64 rushing yards. Galbreath led the Hardrocker receivers with seven catches for 123 yards and one touchdown. Baker was 17-for-29 with 182 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively,
Charlie Johnson totaled 11 tackles and 0.5 sacks.
Lang Gappelberg tallied nine tackles and one sack.
Will Lester and
Nathan Kneubuhler both had eight sacks. Patten totaled five punts for 231 yards and a 46.2 average.

South Dakota Mines continues their three-game homestand with #5 Western Colorado on Oct. 18 at 12 p.m. After a bye week, they will host (RV) Chadron State on Nov. 1 at 12 p.m.
